Getz

State v. Gerald Getz
CR 2007-108652-001 DT

Date of Crime: 2-06-07
City: Phoenix

Facts of Case:
Several witnesses saw the defendant allegedly punch and bodyslam a small dog until the dog's body went limp. The defendant then allegedly stuffed the dog into a suitcase.  The defendant pled guilty to one count of cruelty to animals and one count of possession of marijuana.

Sentence:
The defendant was sentenced to three years of supervised probation with an initial three month jail term.  The defendant did not get any credit for time served on the jail term.  The defendant must complete and animal treatment offender program and may not own, possess or control any animal while on probation.


Encinas

State v. Brenda Encinas
CR 2006-009424-001 DT

Date of Crime: 08-11-05
City: Tempe

Facts of Case:
The defendant allegedly left her dog outside with a choke collar on her neck. The collar created a sore on the dog's neck and eventually fused to the dog's neck. The cut was infected. The defendant is charged with two counts of animal cruelty, one class six felony and one misdemeanor.

Sentence:
The defendant was sentenced to 18 months supervised probation and ordered not to own, possess or control any animal while on probation.


Herrera

State v. Andrew Herrera
CR 2006-112539-001 DT

Date of Crime: 03-07-06
City: Glendale

Facts of Case:
The defendant allegedly fought with police in the parking lot of a bar establishment. The defendant then allegedly struck Ringo the police K-9 as Ringo was trying to apprehend the defendant.

Sentence:
The defendant pled guilty to assault, a misdemeanor.  The defendant was sentenced to nine months of supervised probation by Judge Akers.


Oscar Rodriguez

State v. Oscar Ciprano Rodriguez
CR 2007-101305-001 DT

City: Phoenix

Facts of Case:
On January 6, 2007, on W. Grant Street, the defendant stabbed his brother's puppy "Macho" with a steak knife. The defendant was also apprehended with methamphetamine. The defendant pled guilty to Cruelty to Animals, a class six felony and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a class six felony.  

Sentence: 
The defendant was sentenced to three years of supervised probation with an initial four (4) month jail term.


Kuhn

State v. Laura Kuhn
CR 2005-113204-001 DT

Date of Crime: 10-30-04/04-15-05
City: Peoria, AZ

Facts of Case: 
The defendant was found in possession of 21 cats and 2 dogs in her Peoria home. These animals were enclosed in a filthy trailer with garbage and feces piled knee high. Nearly everything in the trailer was covered in animal feces. This includes the stove, counter, sinks, and toilet. Responding crews had to wear hazmat suits to enter the defendant’s trailer. The high content of urine was hazardous to the lungs of the people entering.
Sentence:
The defendant pled guilty to two felony counts of animal cruelty and two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.  The defendant was sentenced on May 9, 2006, by Judge Cathy Holt to three years of supervised probation for each offense. The Court further ordered the defendant to complete a psychological evaluation and not to own, possess, or control any animals while she is on probation
