PREVENTION TIPS

While the problem of truant children may seem overwhelming, there are numerous basic strategies that, among many benefits, can help get kids to class for the full day, every day.

Tips for parents to get their kids to school regularly:

1. Support the rules and regulations of your local school.
   
   
2. Make sure your child gets a full night's sleep.
   
   
3. Volunteer to assist with school activities or in your child's classroom.
   
   
4. Communicate on a regular basis with your child's teacher.
   
   
5. Get to know your child's friends or peer group.

1. Provide a challenging and safe educational environment for students.
   
   
2. When a student is absent, immediately contact a parent or guardian and personally speak with them. Don't just leave a message.
   
   
3. Establish a relationship with law enforcement and work together to enforce truancy laws.
   
   
4. Praise and reward good attendance.

3. Get plenty of rest every night.
   
   
4. Take your time with school work and ask for questions from teachers and administrators when you need help.
